The Churchill County School Board met Thursday at its second meeting of the month and approved $2,000 for scholarshipsfor four students.
Trustee Greg Koenig informed the board the scholarship fund goal was to reach $2,000; however, it was short $57, but he would donate the remaining money to reach the goal. He recommended the board to award one student with a $1,000 scholarship and $500 to a male and female student. He said if the board did not like the recommendation, he would advise them to award four $500 scholarships.
Trustee Steve Nunn said he agreed with the four $500, though, and announced he had been approached by a local business that would like to donate money to the scholarship fund and hopes he will hear back from them in the next couple of weeks.
Legal representative Sharla Hales said there wouldn’t be an issue with a business’ monetary donation as long as the owners specify where they want the scholarship to go.
With the go-ahead from Hales, the motion was passed to award four $500 scholarships to students of the board’s choosing.
Other items the trustees approved or discussed include the following:
Rejected leasing the district’s water rights or transferring the water rights to property within the district.
