Update: Fallon police advise business owners of serial numbers to counterfeit bills

Fallon Police Department arrested two Reno men Tuesday for passing counterfeit bills, reports Capt. Vern Ulrich.

“Our agency has been investigating multiple reports of suspects passing counterfeit currency in Fallon this afternoon,” Ulrich said.

The men nabbed in police custody are Christopher Allen Franklin Shoemaker, 31, and Daniel David Winters, 43.

The FPD has developed information from at least 11 businesses that the suspects visited and passed or attempted to pass the counterfeit currency. The businesses were located in Fallon, Reno and Sparks. The FPD has also recovered additional counterfeit currency. All of the bills being passed by these suspects had the same serial numbers.

Businesses are encouraged to watch for counterfeit currency with these serial numbers. If businesses find they have been a victim of receiving counterfeit currency with these serial numbers, they should contact their local law enforcement agency.

The suspects traveled from the Reno/Sparks area and passed through Lyon County on their way to Fallon. Ulrich also said if businesses have information that these suspects came into their business on Tuesday and passed or attempted to pass counterfeit currency, they need to contact their local law enforcement agency to file a report.

Ulrich said three subjects who came out from Reno, two of whom who passed or attempted to pass counterfeit currency at Walmart, Pizza Factory, Jerry’s Restaurant and Subway. The bills were $20 and $50 denomination.

“We are currently processing for a search warrant on a vehicle,” Ulrich said. “We are contacting neighboring agencies as part of our investigation.”

Suspects were booked into the Churchill County Jail on multiple counts of burglary, possession of a forged instrument, uttering a forged instrument, and conspiracy to commit the above offenses. Shoemaker’s bail is $60,000 and Winters bail is $30,000.
