More Carson High history

It was with interest and nostalgia that I read the article on the history of Carson High School by Tasha Fuson, principal, and Becky Rodina, teacher, in a recent publication.

As an alumnus of the last class to graduate from the old high school and the current home to Carson Middle School, I thought it would be of relevance to add some facts from that era of the school.

The King Street location served as the site of Carson High from Sept. 1956 to June, 1973. The first year there was a total student population of 257; by 1973 that number had grown to 1,001 with a graduating class of 303.

Prior to the present school’s opening, the multipurpose room was completed and used for the 1972 junior-senior prom. The fall of 1973 was the first year the Carson Senators began classes in its current home. By 1976, the school was so overcrowded that double sessions were held for the next two years.

Although the prior Carson High School did not stand the test of time and was only home to the Senators for 17 years, it was an important part of the lives for many of those who had the privilege of attending classes on that campus as well as an integral part of the school’s history.

I would like to thank the editorial staff of the 1973 Carneta for providing information included in this letter as well as the memory of my brother, a much younger alumnus.
