Jarred Gipson has been named to the 2015 John Mackay Award Preseason Watch List. Gipson is one of 33 players nationally and one of five from the Mountain West to be named to the watch list for the award, which is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end.
Gipson — a junior tight end out of Houston, Texas — has also been named to Phil Steele’s and Lindy’s Sports preseason All-Mountain West second team recently.
Gipson started in all 13 games last season, snagging 33 receptions for 291 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore. The 6-foot-1, 240 pound tight end also played a big role in the Wolf Pack’s running game, helping Nevada average over 200 rushing yards per game. Gipson posted multi-touchdown games against Arizona and Boise State. Gipson also started in 11 games in 2013 as a redshirt-freshman, catching nine passes for 58 yards.
The John Mackay Award will release a midseason watch list on October 12, semi-finalists on November 16 and finalists on November 24. The winner will be announced on December 9 before being unveiled live on December 10 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Gipson and the Wolf Pack open the 2015 season on Thursday, Sept. 3, against UC Davis at Mackay Stadium. Kickoff time is to be announced. For ticket information, call (775) 348-PACK to purchase or register online at NevadaWolfPack.com.
