A shoplifting call at the Target resulted in the arrest of a half-dozen people in Carson City on Wednesday.
Reno residents Tommy Eugene Anderson, 42, Rebecca Ann Ervin, 29, Josiah Andrew Perkins, 42, Jagger Audreaon Garcia-Toussant, 21, Garrett Preston, 21, and Nathaniel Perkins, 22, were taken into custody after they were stopped at the Carson City Lowe’s.
According to court documents, Douglas deputies were called to Target at 11 a.m. Wednesday after a clerk reported three people later identified as Ervin, Anderson and Garcia-Toussant tried to return some items that had been stolen on Sunday. Josiah Perkins was also in the store.
After a Target official insisted on looking in Perkins’ backpack and refused to refund money for the stolen goods, all four left the store in a sport utility vehicle.
While Douglas deputies were taking the report, Carson City spotted and stopped the vehicle. Ervin is being held on burglary and several other charges on $36,000 bail, Anderson’s bail is $27,506. Both Garcia-Toussant and Josiah Perkins’ was set at $10,000. All four are scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court this morning.
Preston and Nathaniel Perkins were arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction, failure to appear warrant, contempt of court warrant and possession of burglary tools. Perkin was arrested on suspicion of possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court warrant.
Inside the vehicle, deputies allegedly located two fake guns, drug paraphernalia, heroin, prescription pills, and items with tags on them. Based on evidence, deputies suspect the group had taken items from Target, Home Depot, Walmart and Sportsman’s Warehouse.
Because the woman involved is from Washington, deputies also are trying to work with Washington state police to see if there are any similar crimes in that state. CCSO also is checking with pawn shops in Nevada and Washington to see if anyone in the group tried to sell stolen items. The case still is under investigation and anyone with information should contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-2500.
