A Carson City man tried to evade deputies Friday by fleeing on a scooter.
Deputies were called to pursue a man who tried to evade arrest after Carson City deputies attempted to pull the subject over at Woodside Drive. Deputies ran the registration on the scooter and it came back expired and registered to Joseph Scurti, an alleged drug dealer, who had two outstanding felony warrants, said deputies.
Scurti refused to yield to police and led deputies on a slow speed chase on a silver TaoTao scooter down Highway 50 toward Fairview Drive. He attempted to get away by riding on the sidewalk but ended up hitting one of the patrol cars that had pulled over to apprehend him. Scurti hit Deputy T.J. Boggan’s car, puncturing the tire and getting the scooter stuck underneath the car.
Scurti then tried to flee on foot when Deputy Josh Chaney and other deputies tackled and handcuffed Scurti. Boggan said Scurti was resisting arrest and struggling with deputies as they tried to handcuff him.
Scurti told police he was riding away because he was trying to drop the scooter off at a friend’s house. Deputies were arresting Scurti on suspicion of a parole and probation warrant, probation violation and possible obstruction charges.
