Local children will bring to life Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and a bungling band of pirates in Youth Theatre Carson City’s staging of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale, “Peter Pan.”
The Tony Award-winning musical follows Peter and Tinkerbell’s magical journey across the stars, a trip neither of them would ever forget. The travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates, and of the villainous Captain Hook.
The show, directed by Andie Anderson, Youth Theatre Carson City founder, features the iconic songs “I’m Flying,” “I’ve Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up,” and “Never Never Land.”
The cast is comprised of youth ages 5-19. Leading the lineup as Peter Pan is Alexa Haight, 15, a student at Carson High School. Also featured are Cassia Giustra, 14, as Wendy; Sydney Berg, 12, as John; Lilly Baum, 7, as Michael; and Joseph Campbell, 17, and Michael Frenchu, 19, who share the role of the villainous Captain Hook.
Unique to this production are the high-flying special effects provided by ZFX, Inc., which make it possible for the actors to soar across the stage.
“This is our first time attempting this kind of technical feat in one of our productions,” Anderson said. “We have an incredible team working together to make this production as magical as we can, and I cannot wait for audiences to see the hard work that both the cast and crew have put into bringing ‘Peter Pan’ to life!”
The show runs at 7 p.m. July 31, Aug. 1, 7, 8 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 1, 2, 8, 9 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets and more information, go to www.youththeatrecarsoncity.com, or call 775-882-0358.
