Gov. Brian Sandoval held a “Doing Business in Nevada” seminar for investors and a reception highlighting the state’s tourism opportunities during a trade-mission stop in London on Wednesday and Thursday. The United Kingdom is the second of five countries on the itinerary for the Republican governor’s trip, which will run through Aug. 6 and includes several dozen representatives from Nevada’s tourism, business and higher education sectors. The United Kingdom is Nevada’s eighth-largest trading partner, with more than $170 million in exports to Nevada in 2014.
“As one of our Top 10 trading partners, the UK has become a focus of our international outreach efforts,” Sandoval said in a statement.
The visit to London included meetings with three members of parliament and Lord Francis Maude, who is the minister of state for trade and investment.
Sandoval also met with water-research entities British Water and Isle Utilities to discuss potential partnerships with the Nevada Center for Excellence, which helps connect Nevada water researchers with businesses that can use their work.
“With a new focus on water technology and commercialization,” Sandoval said, “I am confident there are ways for the State of Nevada and the United Kingdom to further enhance our bilateral trade partnership for the mutual benefit of both parties.”
Water was also a major discussion topic in Dublin, Ireland — the first stop on the trip. The water center and IBM struck a partnership earlier this week and plan to collaborate on developing water-quality management systems.
The governor was in Germany on Friday, and he plans to travel to Poland and Italy.
