A special use permit held by Cinderlite in north Carson City is up for review Wednesday at the city’s Planning Commission meeting.
City ordinance requires such permits to be reviewed every five years and this amounts to the second review. The permit was originally granted in 2004, allowing expansion of the company’s existing aggregate extraction operation, It was renewed in 2010.
Community Development Director Lee Plemel said the primary issue involves the company’s trucks traveling down Goni Road, but he added there have been no complaints about noise or dust due to the extraction operation.
Plemel said, however, there may be some concerns about the damage the trucks cause to Goni Road. The property involved is at 6100 Goni Rd. and is owned by Golden Sierra Investments and the federal Bureau of Land Management.
Also on this next meeting agenda is a request for a special use permit from McDonald Family Trust, with the property owner Heritage Bank of Nevada, to allow equipment rental and permanent outside storage exceeding 20 percent of the property parcel area at 2292 S. Carson St. The applicant wants to use 28 percent of the site area.
Not on Wednesday’s agenda but expected at the August Planning Commission meeting is a review of a request to rehabilitate the old downtown Citibank building in office, retail and apartment space while adding a third floor the currently gutted structure on Telegraph Square. The Adams Foundation owns the building and intends to renovate it and make it fit in with the historic architectural look on the city’s west side.
“We should be on the Planning Commission agenda on the 26th,” said Miya MacKenzie, foundation spokesperson as she looked ahead to a commission review in August. The plans earlier were reviewed by the Historic Resources Commission.
