Garth V. Rasmussen

Quietly observant as life passed before his eyes... He fought a mighty battle against Parkinson’s Disease for over 18 years and never, ever complained. Thanks to St. Mary’s Hospice, he passed away peacefully, where he wanted to be, in Washoe Valley with his wife at his side in the house they built together over 46 years ago. Born in Placerville, CA 80 years ago,the third of five

children, to Marguerite and Wells C. Rasmussen. His father was a blacksmith in Georgetown, CA. The family came to Nevada in 1943, working in Como, Tungsten Mine in Imlay, and then to work for the railroad in Sparks. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and was chosen to perform as a sharp shooter in his division. He hunted and fished everywhere in this area and north of Elko, and always cooked for everyone to enjoy. He was a meat cutter for 18 years, and had all of his fingers! He and his wife owned Carson City Meats for 4 years, and Economy Speed Press, the first “instant print” shop in Carson City, for forty years. (He worked at the Sparks Tribune as a youngster). He was an avid football fan, totally understood all of the strategies and plays. Always knew who would win the beauty pageants. Absolutely loved western, blue grass, and opera music, and knew the name of every song and the vocalists. He had a great sense of humor. His parents, sister, Janealice, and great-grandson,

Hayden preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Sallie, brothers Barney, Wells, and Kay. He truly loved his children and step children (in order of birth dates), Mac, Shelly, Jeanie, Troy, Paul, and Todd. He enjoyed every minute he had with his nieces, nephews, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great granddaughter. Hospice performed a touching memorial service at Bowers mansion. At his request, there will be no other service.
