The Nevada Fair hit Carson City Thursday, starting off the four day event with a special appearance from the Reno Aces mascot Archie.
The Carson City Fire Department started the grand opening with a parade of trucks driving through Fuji Park next to the Exhibit Hall, followed by the 1st Nevada Cavalry who led the crowd in the National Anthem. Archie of the Reno Aces was the special guest Thursday as he cut the ribbon with the Carson City Board of Supervisors, officially kicking off the Nevada Fair at the grand opening.
“Welcome to Carson City where we love to work and play,” Board of Supervisors member Lori Bagwell said to the audience. “I would say that (Nevada Fair) is definitely our play!”
The fair had carnival rides and booths, local vendors selling their products and featured a host of 4-H activities. The 4-H had areas where kids could see different animals such as rabbits, chickens, goats and cows.
“I really want to come see the rabbits, I have one at home,” Seth Douglas, 7, said.
In the Exhibit Hall, there were different demonstrations for spinning and weaving, and displays held ribbon winning art from local creators.
“I have a crocheted shawl in here that I made,” said Michon Chandler. “So that is my favorite part of the fair getting to see that.”
The fair will have contests, demonstrations and a rodeo going on all weekend at Fuji Park.
