“The Current: Explore the Healing Powers of the Ocean” will debut on television at 9 a.m. Sunday on MNT 21.
“The Current” is a film telling the story of seven individuals from all walks of life who faced incredible obstacles, found the drive and inspiration to overcome their disabilities, and became everyday heroes. Through water sports, each has ultimately discovered or rediscovered freedom, of movement.
The Current was produced and directed by Kurt Miller, known for producing and directing 15 Warren Miller feature ski and snowboard films.
The Current features Bethany Hamilton of Soul Surfer, and Grant Korgan surfing and exploring the undersea world of Hawaii. ESPY award winners Mallory Weggemann – London Paralympics swimming gold medalist, Anthony Robles - NCAA Wrestling National Champion and London five-time Olympic medalists Missy Franklin playing with wild dolphins in Bimini. Decorated disabled military veteran Jesse Murphree, Leo Morales and David Hosick scuba diving with famed underwater explorer and ocean environmentalist Jean-Michel Cousteau in Cozumel. The Current’s final sequence is Grant swimming with humpback whales in The Kingdom of Tonga.
In The Current, we will get to know these heroes and their stories through breathtaking cinematography featuring scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling, kayaking as well as diving with dolphins and humpback whales. Featuring music by Jack Johnson, Dhani Harrison, and Louden Wainwright III. After watching this film you will want to experience the same freedom, but most importantly, this film builds awareness for local organizations that provide access to sports for people with disabilities.
