IHOP OP(t)s for logo with a smile

GLENDALE, Calif. — IHOP, the restaurant that began as the International House of Pancakes, announced Monday it has changed IHOP’s logo to feature a smile line under the OP half of the name.

In conjunction with the move, the franchise restaurant chain plans to celebrate with a series of activities called “Summer of Smiles,” which are events devoted to those who make people smile through service or programs.

At the close of March this year, IHOP had 1,650 restaurants in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the Philippines and the U.S. Virgin Islands. International House of Pancakes, LLC, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of DineEquity, Inc., a firm traded publicly under the stock symbol DIN.

Shares of DIN closed Monday at $97.86.
