The Carson City Sheriff’s Department took a break today from catching bad guys to running for kids.
To show their support for the Special Olympics, happening this weekend in Reno, some of the Carson City Sheriff’s deputies and K9s ran with some of the Special Olympic kids from Fairview Drive to Williams Street as a mock torch run. Counties across Nevada participated, running a small section in their area as a representation of the torch run that starts the Special Olympics competition.
“The kids adore the support from public safety,” Sheriff Ken Furlong said. “The kids really attach themselves to public safety officers, they are adorable.”
The Special Olympics are being held at the University of Nevada Reno Friday and at 3 p.m. today.
