Another murder by Indians. Cutler, of the Humboldt Express, brings word the Indians killed a man on the divide between Paradise and Queen’s river last Sunday. Cutler came along as the circus men were burying him. We learned the marks of violence were on the body: otherwise, would suspect “the great show” had exhibited to this poor man, and that he died of an overdose; being on the divide. — Humboldt Register.

Hon. J.H. Dennis started for tide water this morning for the benefit of his health. He claims to be seriously troubled with “plumbago” in his back, but a friend of the major, who is also on the shady side of 50; says the only trouble experienced by old men, from lumbago, is in keeping it off the skin when blackening the hair and mustache. — Elko Independent.

100 years ago

Proud of their achievements. The crowd of Carson ball tossers who went to Virginia yesterday and brought back the bacon are very proud of their achievements and have challenged the balance of the town to produce a team which can deprive them of their laurels. On the team are Cassinelli, Johnson, Karge, Clark, O’Brien, Furlong, Horton, Woodbury and Whitaker.

70 years ago

Two sailors, one from California and one from Mississippi, paid their respects this morning to Gov. E.P. Carville in appreciation of the magnesium chest of silver donated recently by citizens of Nevada. The battleship Nevada was hit recently off Okinawa and now being repaired.

50 years ago
