City swears in officials Tuesday at City Hall

The city of Fallon will be swearing in Mayor Ken Tedford, Councilman Robert “Bob” Erickson and Councilwoman Kelly Frost Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind City Hall with refreshments to follow.

Tedford, Erickson and Frost ran unopposed in this year’s city election. Tedford also ran unopposed in 2011.

This will be Tedford’s sixth term in office. Tedford graduated from Churchill County High School in 1971 and the University of Nevada, Reno in 1974 with an accounting degree. He served as city councilman for eight years and ran unopposed as mayor in 1995, 1999 and 2003. He owns Tedford Tire and Auto Service, a business established by his parents in 1950. His father, Ken Tedford Sr., was a school board member and his uncle, Jack Tedford Jr., was Fallon’s mayor from 1958 to 1970.

Erickson, who first served on the city council from 1983-87, was elected mayor for two four-year terms in 1987 and 1991.

The longtime Fallon resident was elected to fill a city council seat in 2005. Councilman Hank Cornu resigned because of illness in October 2004, and his wife, Marilyn, was appointed to fill the vacancy. She also became ill and died in May 2005.

Erickson later ran for a four-year term in 2007 for Ward II. He spent 21 years in the banking industry and previously owned the Fallon Theatre.

Erickson earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in accounting and forensics and a master’s degree from the Pacific Coast School of Banking at the University of Washington.

Frost has been city councilwoman for more than a year. She was selected last year to fill an open city council seat after Rachel Dahl, who had been re-elected in 2013, resigned on March 12, 2014, to become executive director of the Churchill Economic Development Authority. Dahl had also resigned her middle-school English teaching position.

The Fallon native graduated from Churchill County High School and attended the University of Nevada, Reno graduating with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Frost has taught government and Advanced Placement Government at Churchill County High School for 23 years. She also advises the Young Republicans.

She is married to Russ Frost, who is a third-grade teacher at E. C. Best Elementary School, and they have three children, one in ninth grade and twins in sixth grade.
