Religion briefs: Dayton’s Calvary Chapel lists events

Slew of events offered at Calvary Chapel in Dayton

Calvary Chapel of Dayton Valley, 28 Enterprise Way in Dayton, holds services at 9 and 11 a.m. Sundays and Bible study sessions at 7 p.m. Thursdays, when nursery and children’s ministry are provided.

Crimson Rose Women’s Bible Study meets seasonally at 10 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays.

All-In Men’s Discipleship meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays for study and fellowship.

A men’s breakfast is at 8 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month.

Other events for senior and junior high students and couples looking to strengthen their marriages as well as children’s after school and Sunday school programs are also available.

‘Thailand’ theme of annual Vacation Bible School

Thailand, the home of spicy food, brightly colored fabrics, water canals, lanterns, tigers, elephants, and monkeys, will be the backdrop of Airport Road Church of Christ’s annual Vacation Bible School June 22-26.

Children ages 3 through middle school will enjoy Bible stories, puppets, crafts and games each evening between 6:30 and 8:40 p.m.

There’s no cost for the week. Children will be challenged to bring change each night to help fund an orphans’ ministry in Thailand.

Buddhist relics touring world, stopping in Reno

Maitreya Loving Kindness Tour, a free exhibit of ancient and sacred relics of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni and 44 other Buddhist masters from India, Tibet and China, is visiting Reno on its tour around the world.

The display includes 3,000 relics, including those offered to the tour by the Dalai Lama, which are more than 2,600 years old, a collection from the Sakya Reliquary in Tibet and also from Meiktila Museum in Burma. Most of the relics resemble multi-colored pearl-like crystals that in Tibetan are called “ringsel” and in Sanskrit known as “Sarira.” It’s believed relics embody the master’s spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom and are deliberately produced by the master at his death. The crystal relics were found among the cremation ashes of these masters.

To see the display, go to Dharmakaya Buddhist Center, 501 W. First St., Suite A., Reno, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, when an opening ceremony is also planned; or from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 18; or from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19. The entrance to the center is on Ralston Street.

‘Bless this day’ topic of service June 20

Western Nevadans are invited to learn more about the topic “Bless this day” at a free worship service at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Carson City Community Center.

The one-hour session is sponsored by Eckankar, Religion of the Light and Sound of God. It includes a talk by a facilitator, followed by readings, a small-group discussion and a short contemplation.
