Return of Gov. Blasdel (continued from Tuesday). The necessities of the miners have caused vast destruction of nut-bearing pines; and the general encroachments of civilization have materially lessened the ordinary means provided for the Indians subsistence. In fact, they have been brought to the verge of starvation, and have had to rely upon beetles and ants and mice for articles of food (continued on Thursday).

The other day, when the laundryman called at the Appeal office to get the office towel, he looked at it and remarked that he must have skipped a week with that towel, and might not be able to get the stiffness out of it. The office towel, after being used for a week, gets stiff with dirt, and can be stood up in a corner like a stick of cordwood.

Last night the meeting of the city trustees attracted probably more attention than any meeting held in years. J.W. McDonald of the California contracting firm of McDonald & Co. told the board the kind of pavement he would recommend to pave Carson street from the railroad crossing to the lower end of town.

Made possible by an “exchange of courtesies” W.L. Davis Jr., editor of the Daily Appeal, will go this afternoon by bus to northern California to visit his father. During his absence Norman Johnson, editor of the Carson City Chronicle, will pinch-hit. Johnson later on will take a few days vacation when Davis returns the favor.

Gov. Grant Sawyer said Monday he will ask immediate approval of $15 million in requests for pollution control and sewage disposal projects at Lake Tahoe.

Nevada’s oldest printed newspaper, the Territorial Enterprise, was sold in May to a new owner who plans to return the newspaper to its glory days, editor John Schafer said today.
