A busy week in Nevada politics ramped up Wednesday with visits from Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson and the son of Republican White House hopeful Jeb Bush.
Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited with college students and Republican activists at Washoe County Republican Party headquarters in Reno. He was scheduled to head to Las Vegas for an evening meeting with young professionals at Mundo restaurant.
A campaign spokeswoman said Bush is making the case for electing his father, a former governor of Florida and the son and brother of former presidents.
Jeb Bush, who formally announced his candidacy on Monday, is scheduled to visit Nevada this month.
Carson is also continuing a campaign swing through Nevada with a speech at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference in Las Vegas.
The retired pediatric neurosurgeon spoke at the University of Nevada, Reno on Tuesday, outlining plans for a tax code overhaul and arguing for a more prominent American role in world affairs.
The campaign events will continue later in the week when former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton delivers a speech Thursday at the Latino leaders conference.
The Democratic front-runner is scheduled to head directly to northern Nevada later that day, appearing at the VFW Historic Post 9211 in Reno. Campaign officials say she’ll discuss how to best serve veterans.
On Friday, underdog Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders is scheduled to hold a town hall in Las Vegas and address attendees at the Latino leaders conference.
Sanders has represented Vermont in the U.S. Senate since 2006 and served for 16 years as the state’s congressman before that.
