Carson City’s Arlington Ice Rink skated into the black

Despite closing early, its revenue totaled more than $77,000

The Arlington Square Ice Rink season operated in the black this winter, the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission was told Tuesday.

Meagan Soracco, Parks and Recreation Department recreation program manager, and Scott Chapman, the departmental recreation program supervisor who oversaw rink operations, reported revenues totaling $77,143. Their report: when all bills will be paid expenses will be covered, including some tent, lighting and skate rack upgrades. Soracco posted the report in agenda backup materials and commented on it.

“I think it was a great season,” she said. “I do believe that we will be over 100 percent in cost covering.”

The season had to end a couple of days early due to some warm temperatures and rain.

But otherwise it was a solid year for the rink, according to Soracco.

The agenda also included a spot for discussion of the rink public/private partnership involving the Carson Nugget Casino, the Downtown Business Association, Tahoe Fence and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The commission heard from staff regarding construction of the multi-purpose athletic center on Russell Way, for which a ground breaking ceremony was held Feb. 26 with fast-track building now underway; an update on removal of two trees from Fuji Park; another update on an Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon trail project, as well as reports on a land and water conservation grant and the name change from Edmonds to the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.
