Gardnerville artist Sonia Carlson is hosting a free Chinese calligraphy workshop at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, as part of the Nevada Arts Council’s “Work of Artists” series at the Nevada Legislative Building.
Growing up in Zhangzhou, China, Carlson learned calligraphy in school and folk dances from her family. Her free presentation, which will run until 5 p.m. in Room 3100, will intertwine cultural notes about China and Chinese tradition while encouraging participants to try calligraphy.
“The Work of Artists” is presented by the Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, SENarts and Capital City Arts Initiative. SENarts is a partnership between the Nevada Senate, Nevada Arts Council, Nevada Division of Museums and History and the Brewery Arts Center. In a small and welcoming environment, artists offer insight into the work they do, the art they make and the talent it takes to produce their treasures. All presentations are free and open to the public.
