A man filling a tank on a commercial delivery tanker suffered burns to his head and arms, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.

Lyon County Dispatch received a call of an explosion at about 8:15 a.m. at 27 Bulk Plant Road where Union 76 Oil is located. Lyon County deputies, fire and EMS personnel reported to the scene.

While the man was filling the tank, fumes ignited causing a flash explosion. Two citizens at the scene administered first aid and extinguised the flames before responders arrived, limiting further harm or damage.

The man was transported to South Lyon Medical Center then flown out by air ambulance for advanced medical treatment.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Mason Valley Fire Department.
