Western Nevada College is offering several interesting non-credit courses this fall through its Community Education Division.

The courses are designed to enrich the cultural, social and recreational life of our community.

Adult/Child/Infant CPR

Meets Saturday, May 23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a great class for babysitters and young teens who are watching siblings. Age requirements are 11-17 years old. Graduates receive their completion card through the mail. Cost: $51.


Advanced Perspective Drawing

Meets Saturday, April 18 and 25, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. This class will advance to more complex shapes involving people drawings, experiment with illustrating animals, light reflections, refractions and shadows. Differences that come from light sources will also be tackled, and practice with reflective surfaces. There is a pre-requisite for this class. Check online for the supply list. Fee $46.


Babysitting Certification

Meets Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Learn to be a professional and responsible babysitter from beginning to end through this American Red Cross Babysitting Certification class. Graduates receive their Babysitting card through the mail. Cost: $72.


Beginning Perspective Drawing

Meets Saturday, April 11, 12-4 p.m. Class will cover the basic rules and techniques for creating realistic illustrations, the horizon line, multiple vanishing points, and illustrator’s eye level, the position of objects above, on and below the horizon line. Check online for the supply list. Fee: $46.


Driver Education

Meets Monday-Thursday, April 6-9, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Offers thirty hours of new driver education. Meets requirements to obtain a Nevada driver’s license. Uses lectures, interactive CD’s, videos and driving simulators in a classroom setting to cover Nevada driving regulations, basic vehicle control, and challenging situations. Open to students ages 15 and above. Fee: $100.


Introductory Yoga

Meets Mondays, March 23-May 11, 5:15-7:30 p.m. If you want to try yoga, this class is a good place to begin. It assumes no prior yoga experience and covers basic breath work and yoga postures. Simple stretches and deep relaxation are included each week. Fee: $76.

Square Foot Gardening

Meets Saturdays, April 11-25, 9-11 a.m. Grow 100 percent of the crop in only 20 percent of the space of a conventional row garden. You will save time, water, work and money. The will be a field trip scheduled to make this a four session class. Cost: $51.


Wilderness First Aid Basics

Meets Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

During this course the student will learn how to be prepared and keep their family and friends safe, make a plan in advance of an emergency, how to contact help, and evacuation techniques . Fee: $101.
