A 20-year-old Carson City man has been arrested on sexual assault charges.

Carson City Sheriff’s Det. Sal Acosta said Drake Martin was jailed on four counts of sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 16.

Those charges are all Category A felonies punishable by 35 years to life in prison on each charge. If convicted, he faces a minimum consecutive sentence of 140 years.

The victim, now 14, reportedly told detectives the assaults had been going on for several years.

Martin was held in lieu of $250,000 bail with further charges in the case possible.

In a separate case, Acosta said Brittany Paugh, who pleaded no contest to child abuse causing the death of a 28-month-old toddler turned herself in to begin serving her prison sentence on Friday.

Paugh was out on bail pending an appeal. She was transported to the custody of Nevada Department of Corrections officials.

The child, Justin Watson, was hospitalized Nov., 2012 after he was found unconscious at the home of his father. Paugh was the father’s girlfriend.

The boy died several days later.
