A preliminary hearing is scheduled for today in the case of a Gardnerville Ranchos man accused in the death of his infant daughter.
Trent Getty, 23, is denying he is responsible for the death of his 10-week-old daughter, Ava.
According to court documents, Getty brought an unresponsive Ava to Carson Valley Medical Center at 2 a.m. on Jan. 7. Not long afterward, he told investigators he’d picked the girl up from her grandmother’s house at 7 p.m. Jan. 6, according to an affidavit filed in support of a murder charge.
Getty said he put Ava in her swing and fell asleep. He said he awoke to Ava crying. He said her swing had tipped over.
Ava was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center where it was determined she was not able to sustain life on her own due to severe brain swelling. She was taken off life support on Jan. 10.
That same day, Getty was taken into custody by California
Getty is being represented by attorneys Maria Pence and Jamie Henry.
The hearing is scheduled to be held in East Fork Justice Court before Judge Tom Perkins.
A preliminary hearing determines if there is sufficient evidence that a crime has been committed and slight or marginal evidence the accused person is responsible.
