Carson City Board of Supervisors: Fleet needs, Ebola grant items on tap

Authorization to purchase city fleet vehicles and to allow an application for a hospital preparedness Ebola grant are on the Carson City governing board’s agenda Thursday.

The Board of Supervisors will be asked to authorize $627,442 to purchase a half dozen Public Works Department vehicles. They are all trucks for various work and would go through the state purchasing fleet vehicle system. The trucks range in price from $31,168 on the low side to $198,702 at the high end.

Health and Human Services is seeking authority to go after about $80,000 over a five-year period via a Hospital Preparedness Program Ebola Preparedness and Response Activities Grant through the state’s Division of Public and Behavioral Health public health preparedness program.

The grant funds would be used to develop health care coalitions to care for patients with infectious diseases such as Ebola and to collaborate with coalition members, including local fire departments, to help purchase supplies and conduct annual exercises.

There are various other contracts and items on the agenda as well.

The board, as usual, begins its meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, which is at 851 E. William St. The agenda shows no lunch break, which means it’s expected to be a shorter session than normal.
