Gasoline pump prices in Carson City have hit a range from $2.50 to more than $2.80 per gallon, the latter crowding Nevada’s statewide average of a day earlier.
That was the lay of the land locally in the motor fuels arena Monday, when the national average had just moderated to $2.43 per gallon at the pump for unleaded regular, according to GasBuddy.com, a gasoline price monitoring online survey source. GasBuddy reported two Carson City stations Monday were charging $2.49 a gallon, two more were at $2.59, and five were at $2.69.
The lowest four stations were The Country Store at 3389 US Highway 50 East and Eagle Gas at 1360 S. Carson St., posting $2.49, and Costco at 700 Old Clear Creek Road and JM Gasoline, 1321 N. Carson St., at $2.59.
The five at $2.69 were joined by one at $2.71, one at $2.75 and a pair at $2.79 in shading the $2.80 level. The balance of the state capital’s stations listed were over that level, crowding or exceeding the statewide average in a survey of 1,130 stations. That Nevada average was $2.88 per gallon on Sunday, a moderation of less than a penny per gallon from the previous week’s statewide survey average.
The national $2.43 average on Sunday had moderated more than had Nevada’s, dropping 2.4 cents per gallon from the previous week. An analyst took note of the slight easing after a run up in prices earlier in the year.
“After March came in like a lion at the pump, things are beginning to cool down, especially in hardest hit areas in the West,” said Patrick DeHaan, the GasBuddy analyst.
The website reported on the past year’s roller coaster pricing by noting motor fuels still cost less than they did in March, 2014, despite this year’s early run up. For example, it said Indiana saw the largest drop versus a year ago, declining $1.52 per gallon, while some western states, including Nevada, had dropped less. Nevada’s drop from a year earlier was 65 cents; in Oregon it was 69 cents and in California the decline was 57 cents.
