First woman sentenced in robbery of 99-year-old Carson City woman

The woman who pleaded to charges in the robbery of a 99-year-old Carson City woman was sentenced Monday to up to 20 years in prison for robbery and possession of stolen property.

Barbara “Bexy” Mora was one of four women originally charged in the case. Judge Todd Russell made the sentences consecutive, giving her the maximum 15 years prison time for robbery and the maximum five years for possession of stolen property.

The victim told investigators she was confronted in her garage by a woman who forcefully took her purse containing up to $500 in cash along with some personal belongings. She was uninjured in the robbery.

Robbery of a person over age 60 is a Category B felony.

Mora will be eligible for parole after serving 52 months in prison on the robbery charge. She will have to serve at least 24 months more on the possession charge.

In addition, Victoria Mora could face up to 72 months in prison in connection with the robbery in addition to whatever time she has to serve for violating her parole in another case.

Joanna Grajeda, who prosecutors say is the woman who actually stole the purse, faces up to 15 years in prison.

Gloria Grajeda also faces charges in the case. Detectives said she wasn’t involved in the robbery but is accused of possessing some of the stolen property.

The cases against those three women still are all pending.
