The bats popped, the pitching was on point and the defense stiff as the Fallon baseball team earned its first sweep of the season.

The Greenwave rolled past Truckee last weekend to open the Northern Division I-A schedule. Fallon won 15-10, 8-1 and 13-2 and sits at 3-0 in league play and 3-5 overall.

In Friday’s game, Fallon pounded out 18 hits led by three apiece from Dalton Frank, Joe Pyle and Brock Uptain.

The Wave raced out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning and pushed the margin to 12-0 in the fifth. Truckee, though, answered with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the deficit to 12-9.

Starting pitcher Cade Monardo, who threw four scoreless innings to open the game, was touched for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, although he tallied four strikeouts and earned the win.

Fallon’s bullpen, though, slammed the door shut in the final two frames. Riley Williams and Chase McElvain stopped Truckee’s rally and Dylan Jabines allowed one run in two innings to preserve the win.

On Saturday, Fallon’s pitching was dominant as the Wave hurlers — Alex Mendez, Pyle and McElvain — allowed eight hits combined and three runs.

Mendez tossed a complete game striking out five and allowing just four hits in seven innings.

At the plate, Jabines drove in three, while Jack Swisher added two RBIs. Jabines and Branden Beeghly each doubled.

Fallon scored in the first and third innings, but broke the game open in the fourth inning as the Wave tallied four runs. It was more than enough for Mendez, who has become one of Fallon’s best arms.

In the finale, Pyle and McElvain combined for a four-hitter as the Wave bats once again exploded. Pyle went four innings and struck out three, walked three, allowed two runs and surrendered only two hits.

McElvain, meanwhile, was nearly perfect in relief as he allowed two hits and fanned one in his second appearance of the series.

Leading 3-2 in the fourth inning, Fallon touched Truckee starter Connor Bullion for seven runs in the frame to blow the game open. The Wave added three runs in the sixth to seal the sweep.

Marshall Coverston had three hits including a double and scored twice, while Beeghly added two hits, a pair of runs and four RBIs highlighted by a two-run home run.

Will Bliss also had a solid game at the plate as he notched three hits including a double, two RBIs and scored twice.

Fallon returns to the field Friday and Saturday at Spring Creek (3-0, 6-1) for a three-game set. The Wave opens their home slate on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against rival Fernley (0-0, 2-0).

Lady Wave rolls past Wolverines

The Fallon softball team needed only 10 innings during Monday’s doubleheader at Truckee.

The Lady Wave won 19-3 and 21-1. The third game of the series was on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

In the first game, Megan McCormick, Courtney Cross, Hannah Frank, Miranda Ford and Izzy Thomas each had three hits as Fallon pounded out 20 total for the game.

McCormick also had a triple and three RBIs, while Ford and Thomas each drove in four runs.

Ford also went the distance in the circle and struck out four.

In the second game, Fallon torched Truckee for 14 runs in the first inning en route to the 21-1 win.

Kalyn Huckaby went 3-for-4 with six RBIs and two runs, while Ali Tedford, Thomas and Kayla Buckmaster each had three hits.

Buckmaster added four RBIs, while Paige Thorn scored four runs and Frank and Thomas each scored three times.

Buckmaster also went the distance in the circle striking out six and allowing just one hit.

Fallon opened the season with a 1-4 mark at the Elk Grove Tournament in California last week. The Lady Wave returns to action on Friday and Saturday at Spring Creek.
