Santa Claus, known as Johnny, came to Bob Dean’s cabin, inebriated, and thought he would descend the chimney. He sat on the edge and dropped in. He was wedged in and could not ascend. Uncle Bob came out and tore down the chimney, setting the young man free ... with Uncle Bob’s blessings upon his head and rear (Belmont Courier).

Wonderful anesthetic. Dr. Southworth is using hydrate of cocaine on the teeth. A few drops renders a tooth insensible and a woman of the most sensitive nerves can have her tooth filled and never feel even so much as a touch.

Vertical writing. The teachers and principals employed in the schools of Reno and Sparks have formed an institute for the promotion of school work. At the Reno-Sparks meeting the vertical system of penmanship was denounced and the need of a similar course of study recommended.

Photo caption. Walter C. Wilson, Carson City director of the State Department of Commerce, presented a $10,000 Lillie Stock Testimonial Fund to University board of regents chairman, Dr. Fred Anderson, of Reno. Interest from the fund, amounting to $500 a year, will be used for university scholarships for children from the State Orphans Home. The fund was started in 1948 by Miss Stock, a former nurse at the home. The Max C. Fleischman Foundation added $5,000 to the fund.
