Guy Charles Outland, Jr.

Guy Charles Outland, Jr., a U.S. Army veteran and Carson City motorcycle enthusiast, died March 5th at his Dayton home with family by his side. He was 80. Outland, born in Greenville, Calif., grew up the son of a pharmacist. As a child, Outland’s parents, Guy Outland and Frieda Raemsch, sold the pharmacy and moved the family to an Almond Ranch in Modesto, Calif.Outland learned what it meant to put in a hard day’s work, and he entered the U.S. Army in 1953. After he ended his service, Outland opened a motorcycle shop in Modesto and cultivated a love of riding that continued the rest of his life. After moving to Carson City in 1972, Outland formed Pony Express Mini Riders, a division of American Motorcyclist Association youth racing. The group taught youth riders the dos and don’ts of riding. He also owned Carson Kawasaki-Husqvarna on North Carson Street where Preferred Auto Body Shop is today. Outland also enjoyed going motocross racing with his sons, Guy C. (Chuck) Outland III and Kyle Outland traveling all over the West Coast. Outland moved to Dayton in 1986 where he spent most days tinkering with motorcycles, planning hunting trips, and spending time with his animals. In 1990, Outland met Lynn, the love of his life, and would take weekend motorcycle rides to wherever the road took them. Outland was a passionate Masonic Lodge member in Virginia City where he held the rank of Tyler. He is survived by his soul mate Lynn, sister Frances, son Kyle (son of Gail Roberts), Michelle (Kyle’s wife), grandchildren Cody, Faun, Quin, Andrew and Emily. His son, Chuck (son of Jerry), passed in 2001. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. March 29 at the Masonic Lodge in Virginia City, a viewing will be available from 1:30 to 2:00.
