He may just be the best pitcher in the league

After another dazzling performance on Friday, Fallon sophomore ace Alex Mendez has put the Northern Division I-A on notice.

The standout righty led the charge as the Greenwave took two of three games at Spring Creek last weekend.

Fallon improves to 5-1 in league, 5-6 overall and is tied for first with Elko (5-1, 8-3). The Wave returns to the diamond today to battle cross-county rival Fernley at 3 p.m. at the Edward Arciniega Complex.

Mendez, though, blew through the Spartans lineup time and again on Friday as he fanned 11 batters, walked three and allowed one run on three hits in the Wave’s 3-1 win.

Fallon followed with an 8-2 loss in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, then rebounded for an 18-4 dismantling of Spring Creek in the finale.

As for Friday, Mendez allowed the lone run in the first inning, but shut down the Spartans the rest of the way.

Tied at 1 in the top of the sixth inning, Fallon pushed across a pair of runs to seal the win.
