140 Years Ago

Indian captives. Two young German girls have been held in captivity by the Cheyenne. At the formal surrender of Stone Calf and his 16,000 braves, the two captive German girls were brought and given up to the authorities. The oldest one is enceinte and half crazed with grief and shame. Both were dressed in Indian costume. It will be remembered at the time of their capture their parents, two brothers and sister were massacred (Chicago Interocean).

All sorts. The ranchers along the Carson River say there will not be enough water this year to wash clothes.

110 Years Ago

Tramping to Tonopah. The road is thronged with men walking to Tonopah and Goldfield with nothing but clothing and blankets. The labor market is overstocked, and every square inch of territory from Sodaville to Death Valley is staked with mining locations as a country graveyard with tombstones.

George Vogel had a leg broken when he was struck by a car near the highway building. He was on his way to school. Dr. Thom set it.

50 Years Ago

Carson City High School’s baseball team. Senators prep for Elko as Coach Roy Kidder sets emphasis on pitching. Kidder indicated that Terry Graham and Rick Squires will be his starters when the Senators face Elko.
