Community sports: Carson High School athletic meeting set for May 11

An all sports parent meeting is scheduled for May 11 at 6 p.m. at Carson High’s Morse Burley Gym.

The meeting will cover how to complete the online registration for fall, winter and spring sports next year. The meeting is for all parents and athletes interested in participating in any sports CHS offers.

Physicals, concussion testing, social media, bullying and hazing, drug testing and other important information will be covered. Coaches will be available to talk to parents after the meeting. For more information, contact the athletic department at 283-1900.

Deadlock at Silver Oak

Two teams tied for the top spot at the Silver Oak Senior Men’s Club recent tournament.

Ron Taqmori, Gary Helseth, Roger Cartwright and Tom Abbett shot 116 in the 4-man cha-cha-cha format. Also shooting 116 was the group of Freeman Johnson, David Knighten, Gary Yoakum and Bill Roy McAlister. There was a two-way tie for third at 120 between the quartet of Rene Garcia, Gary Curti, Michael Helm and Martin Johnson, and Dennis Puccinelli, Jim Pursel, Doug Mcgilvray and Pat Lantis.

The group of John Dark, Mark Hanzlik, Tim Ricketts and a blind score took fifth at 121.

Swann wins flight at Empire

Geoff Swann finished with a 47 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club recent event. Swann edged Bob Pemberton (45) and Steve Scharfe (41) to win A flight.

Nick Paul won B flight with a 44, two better than Charles Bell and Dick Montoya. John Lewis and Al Giannotti both had 47 in C flight, but Lewis won the tiebreaker, Duane Carroll, Tony Grinceri and Wes Franklin all had 46s. Carroll and Franklin won the tiebreaker. Vic Rocha won D flight with a 49, seven better than Peter Youngdahl and 12 better than Tom Harlow.

Pemberton, Menezes team for win

Bob Pemberton and Marc Menezes shot a net 67 to win the A flight at Carson Valley Golf Club’s alternat shot tournament May 3.

Dan Essary and Jack Sparman were second at 75. Brick Ludington and David Morris won B flight with a 72, one stroke ahead of Brent Holdrman and Barry Chernock. Larry Lockwood and Paul Finan won C flight with a 62, six shots better than Joe Morrison and Frank Tislot.

Chargers move into first

The Chargers knocked off the Chiefs, Saints and Cardinals to move into first place in the Talents Outdoor flag football league.

Zach Guthrie threw nine TDs and ran for another score, Alex Myrehn scored five TDs, threw for one and intercepted three passes. Parker Story added seven scores and one pick. Jesse Gaspar scored five times and had three interceptions, and Tristan Hawkins scored three times and intercepted two passes.
