Bark in the Park celebration

At last, the dog-gone-best-social-event of the season. Tomorrow, Bark in the Park will present a fun-filled day for dogs and their people. The day begins with the annual 5K walk/ run. Bring your favorite furry buddy on a leash and take a stroll. Dogs walk free and the fee for their people is only $15 per person or $50 for groups of four. The first 100 to cross the finish line will receive a medal.

This year’s annual event is dedicated to the memory of David Martinez, a true lover of dogs and faithful volunteer. Registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. (promptly) at the Churchill County Fairgrounds (late arrivals will not be allowed to register). The walk/run begins at 9 a.m. All of the money raised from this event goes to supporting our guests.

There is so much going on that you won’t want to miss out on anything. Entrance is free to Bark in the Park activities. There will be vendor booths where you can get information about services available for dogs and cats, free samples of products, nail clipping and even a dog wash.

Kim Lamb, who is our favorite pet photographer, will be available to capture the essence of your favorite pet. Bring your furry or feathered buddy for a family portrait. You can feature yourself and your pet in the CAPS Happy Endings 2016 calendar. Now is the time to pre-order a 2016 calendar because last year’s sold out quickly. Portraits are only $20.

The silent auction is one activity you won’t want to miss. There are many delightful items to bid on. We also have hats, shirts, hoodies and other pet products for sale. From food to art there is something for everyone. Our cheerful volunteers will assist you with whatever you may need.

This is the event-of-the season for our pet loving community. Please come and meet the local people who support our no-kill-shelter. Don’t forget to bring your special furry friend, who must be leashed, for a fun-filled day.

WHO’S WHO AT CAPS?

Shirley Peden is a wonderful lady who loves cats. She has made it her mission to play with each and every cat in the CAPS community. It is delightful to watch her encourage the cats and kittens to play. Socializing cats and kittens is an important job because ultimately a friendly critter is an adoptable critter. Our sincere thanks to Shirley for her purrfect cat play and her commitment to the CAPS community.

WHO’S NEW AT THE CAPS ZOO?

This week’s darling pet is Silly Kettles, a gray-and-white long haired cat. If you have ever been to CAPS, you were probably greeted by this affectionate, cute girl. She is so gentle and desires to please. Silly Kettles is 10 years young, declawed and ready to be your lap pal. Come out and meet her because she is always happy to be the official greeter of CAPS. We also have frisky kitties and puppies. CAPS’ policy, however, prohibits adopting out puppies or kittens under the age of six months to a home with children under five years of age. This is to protect both the children and the animal.

CAPS NEWS AND EVENTS

CAPS will be at Walmart on May 23 with Ki and our Kissin’ Booth. Ki really looks forward to being there and seeing friends. Don’t disappoint Ki, so come by.

Flower Tree Nursery is raffling a 15-gallon Prairie-Fire crab apple tree. The raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets. Be sure to get your tickets soon. The drawing date will be announced later, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win.
