Ursula B. Carlson will talk about how writing a memoir can be done as a short piece or on a larger scale at a memoir-writing workshop sponsored by the Carson City Library at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Digitorium.

Carlson, who earned her Ph.D. in English in 1976 from the University of Detroit, will guide the process with suggestions for a well-organized structure.

As professor of English from 1993 to 2011 at Western Nevada College, Carlson taught several writing courses, including poetry writing, and literature classes, receiving tenure in 1997. She is the author of several books, most recently “The California Campaigns of the U.S.-Mexican War,” and “Mercenaries in Medieval and Renaissance Europe.” Both books are co-authored with Hunt Janin. Carlson is a columnist for the Nevada Appeal.
