The preliminary hearing began Monday afternoon for Drake Martin, a man accused of sexually assaulting a female.
Martin is being held on one count of sexual assault against a child under 14 and three counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 for having sex with a minor from December 2014 to February 2015. There also are four other counts against Martin.
He attempted to continue the preliminary hearing by stating his attorney hadn’t collected witnesses on his behalf and objected to the proceeding, however the judge determined the defense attorney had collected all information necessary for the hearing.
The prosecution and defense questioned the female victim for two hours about what incidents occurred in which she accused Martin of raping her numerous times over the past seven years, though at the moment he’s only being charged for the four most recent incidents. She also told the courts he threatened to hit and kill her if she told anyone what he did to her.
The prosecution also called Det. Sal Acosta, who was the investigating detective on the case, however, court adjourned prior to questioning due to lack of time. The remainder of the preliminary hearing will be set for a later day to hear Acosta’s testimony and to determine what the charges will be for Martin.
