A magician and comedian who was named the judges’ favorite on NBC’s America’s Got Talent is visiting the Carson Nugget Friday, June 5.
Justin Rivera, of the Magic Castle in Hollywood, has been seen on Fast Track to Fame on the Speed Channel and The Gong Show on Comedy Central with Dave Attell and Adam Corolla.
Derek Richards, of XM Radio and the Bob and Tom Show, will bring funny tales about his blue collar upbringing to the Nugget’s stage on June 12.
A veteran of several USO tours, Richards was chosen as one of the first performers at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after the base began guarding jailed Al-Qaeda terrorists. The comedy tour earned Richards national coverage in Newsweek. He also has performed at U.S. base camps in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Africa.
The Nugget will also host Dennis Blair, who appeared on The Tonight Show and toured with George Carlin for more than 18 years, on June 19.
Blair, who also screenwrites, acts and songwrites, is the winner of the Charlie Award for best comedian in New York. He won an Emmy for the animated film, “Confessions of a Stand-up.”
Blair toured with Rodney Dangerfield for three years early in his career. He conceived and co-wrote Dangerfield’s movie, “Easy Money.” He co-wrote and was a featured actor in two Dangerfield specials on ABC, and was creative consultant for the album “Rappin’ Rodney.” The title song, which he co-wrote, was nominated for a Grammy.
Doors for all shows open at 6:45 p.m., with performances following at 7:30. Tickets cost $13 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Audience members must be 21 or older.
