Nevada Legislature: Lawmakers to comb through Sandoval’s revised tax plan

Nevada lawmakers are getting their first crack at a revised tax plan proposed by Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval that would help fund a record expansion of K-12 education initiatives.

Lawmakers will hold a joint committee meeting on Thursday to review the proposed “Nevada Revenue Plan” with less than two weeks to go in the legislative session.

The plan raises the business license fee and ups the rate of the existing modified business tax, as proposed by Assembly Republican leaders Paul Anderson and Derek Armstrong.

The bill also adopts elements of Sandoval’s earlier tax proposal that would tax businesses on gross revenue and industry type.

Supporters say the new plan has a better chance than the original of reaching the constitutionally required two-thirds majority vote for any tax increase.
