Carson City’s estimated population grew by 461 between mid-2013 and July 1, 2014, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Nevada’s state capital city population was 54,061 on July 1, 2013, and had grown to 54,522 a year later, Robert Bernstein, census bureau spokesman, replied to a Nevada Appeal inquiry on Friday. The boost was less than one percent.

Bernstein was asked about the increase because the bureau had issued a news release with information regarding other cities in the state said to have increased the most from mid-2013 to mid-2014. The release issued on Thursday just provided the numerical increases of five cities.

It indicated Las Vegas grew by 9,929 over that period, followed by Henderson with 6,737 and North Las Vegas with 3,870. In Northern Nevada, according to the release, Reno had grown by 3,713 from mid-2013 to mid-2014, while Sparks registered an increase of 1,509.

The bureau also said Nevada gained 9,072 housing units during the same period. It said Nevada has a total of 19 incorporated cities. The census bureau data is based on annual population estimates since the nation’s 2010 census was taken.
