It has been a party 150 years in the making and the Nevada Appeal is celebrating in style.
The Nevada Appeal is turning 150 years old on Saturday. And to celebrate the occasion, the Appeal is planning a party that’s going to be remembered for the next 150 years.
The event will be held in the Nevada Appeal parking lot, 580 Mallory Way, and is open to the public. The party will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Appeal will begin accepting guests at 10:30 a.m.
“Carson City, the state of Nevada, and the Nevada Appeal all grew up together,” Nevada Appeal publisher Mark Raymond said. “For 150 years we’ve been friends and neighbors.
“Through storms and droughts, fires and floods, boom and bust we’ve watched the sun wash across the Sierra more than 50,000 times together.
“We’re proud of our community, our great state and the stories we’ve shared. With our neighbors, we look forward with great anticipation to the next 150.”
The first 500 guests will receive free goodie bags at Saturday’s event and there also will be collectible items — T-shirts, beer mugs, and limited edition minted coins for purchase. Live performances will include two of the Carson City area’s most famous performers — Molly Seals from American Idol fame and Jake Houston and the Royal Flush — along with appearances by Carson City and Nevada dignitaries. There also will be food trucks, a beer garden, demonstrations by community organizations, tours of the Appeal and a kids’ zone.
Also during the celebration, the Appeal’s 150th birthday special edition beer — and its name — brewed by Lake Tahoe Brewing Company will be unveiled.
Sportsman’s Warehouse in Carson City also has donated $900 worth of camping equipment — enough for a family of four. The equipment will be given away during the party.
To enter, be one of the first 500 at the party and fill out the entry form in your goodie bag. The winner will be drawn during the party. You must be present to win.
Other sponsors of the event include JM Furniture, Carson Tahoe Health, Campagni Auto Group, Carson Cigar Company, Minden-Tahoe Airport Aviation Roundup, Eagle Vision, Kim Lee’s Sushi and Oyster Bar, Everlasting Footprints Photography and Video, Michael Hohl Automotive, Brookdale and McClain’s Mobile Music.
In addition, the Nevada Appeal will publish two special sections to mark this special occasion. On Friday, the Appeal will feature a section of its most prominent front pages throughout history. On Saturday, the Appeal will feature a keepsake edition marking its Sesquicentennial.
The celebration doesn’t end on Saturday. The Capital City Community Band will help the Appeal kick off the first day of its next 150 years by saluting the Nevada Appeal’s 150th birthday in its Old Favorites Band Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in the Aspen Building’s Carson Nugget Hall on the campus of Western Nevada College.
Admission is free. Reserved seating is available for anyone who’s unable to access stairs by calling 775-883-2219. An elevator is also going to be available to the second floor, where the Nugget Hall is located.
