Great weather is on tap this weekend for graduates, their loved ones at graduation events and for folks grappling with fishing poles or just outdoors to commune with nature.

The mercury was in the 80s with mostly sunny skies for Carson City and environs on Friday, setting the stage for even warmer weather with fully sunny skies today. C.K. Baily, whose last name graces Baily fishing pond at the city’s south edge, was asked Friday if he would be out angling in such fine weather today.

“I’m going to be fried on the Carson High (school) football field,” he said, though he wasn’t complaining a bit. He said his granddaughter, Brittany Baily, is graduating and he would be there for that special person’s special occasion. But for others who choose to cast their lot with the fishing gods, he said, it should prove great for such casting today and Sunday.

“I think this is going to be a fantastic weekend for it,” he said. Baily looked back to May 2 and the Kids Fishing Day at Baily Pond, saying it was great weather then but after that rains intervened for a while. This post-Memorial Day weekend, however, should be clear and inviting for anglers, campers, golfers and anyone else provided the Reno office of the National Weather Service projection holds up.

Today is expected to bring to this area a high of 88 in the afternoon with sunny skies and west winds of 5-10 miles per hour. The mostly clear skies will later bring temperature declining tonight into the 50s and west winds of 5-15 mph with gusts up to 25 possible.

Sunday should be mostly sunny with the high 86 and southwest winds, again in the 5-15 mph range during the morning and possible gusts reaching 25. Sunday night will turn partly cloudy with a low around 50 and breezy conditions.

Monday is expected to be mostly sunny but the afternoon high should moderate to 75.

Baily looked forward, meanwhile, to a great fishing opportunity for every Nevadan in a couple of weeks. He said on Saturday, June 13, it will be Nevada Free Fishing Day. Anyone can fish in Nevada waters that day without a license, he said, though all other usual regulations still apply.
