150 Years Ago

Indian troubles at Ione. A mother of one of our well-known citizens arrived from Egan Canyon. She stated that a large force of Piute [sic] Indians surrounded Lone City and drove all the inhabitants into one of the principal buildings. The Indians stated that they did not wish to murder the people, but they were in a destitute and starving condition and demanded two hundred dollars. The people of the place acceded to their demands and paid them the sum asked. The Indians went away without further trouble.

All sorts. Hub Parker has moved down from the flume. The anti-Chinese agitation is getting very lively in California. It is said that Johnny Moore has a Bible brought over in the Mayflower.

110 Years Ago

Died at Goldfield. Phil Bryant died in Goldfield after a short illness. The deceased was 46 years old and raised in Washoe Valley. He lived in Carson City for a number of years and for 30 years made his trade as a miner.

70 Years Ago

Nevada Day. Included in the numerous floats was the Reno Bank Club, who advertised the sale of war bonds. Ten thousand of Nevada’s famous silver coins were in sacks on the float and were emptied, one by one, and then resacked, a professional vaudeville show with prominent artists including “Pinky” Tomlin held the attention of a large crowd and a bathing beauty contest under the direction of Miss Clara Crisler with bathing suits of 1864 were displayed.

50 Years Ago

Nevada Test Site. Workers returned to the Nevada Test Site after a 5,000-man strike which put the nation’s nuclear testing ground out of business for a month.
