SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Nevada’s taking care of business

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: A new U.S. Census Bureau report named Nevada the most active state in the country for startup businesses with a growth rate of 2.8 percent. “Measuring America: Job Creation in the United States,” is the study, released by the U.S. Census Bureau, and based on the year 2013.

It’s also clear those in the business community in Northern Nevada — and in Carson City — have contributed significantly to the results of this study as news stories published by the Appeal and other publications on all the new business and manufacturing activity in the state can attest.

SILVER DOLLAR: We’ll continue to toot our own horn as Carson City was rated as the fifth best place in the nation to retire by Livability.com, a website that ranks quality of life in the nation’s cities. The website cited our 300 days of sunshine on average each year, low humidity, mild temperatures and area amenities for outdoor recreation.

SILVER DOLLAR: One more Nevada Day recognition to Nevada Indian Commission Director Sherry Rupert and actor Jack Waggon for being named as co-grand marshals for the Nevada Day parade.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City’s Silver State Level 4 Gymnastics Team for winning the title at the Fall Fest event in Grass Valley, Calif.
