Over the Halloween week, Carson City, Douglas and Lyon county area law enforcement agencies conducted Operation Scarecrow, a collaborative effort to keep children safe from sex offenders. The operation had more than 200 contacts.
Operations Scarecrow and Trick or Treat was an effort to verify sex offender, intensive supervision and general supervision offender compliance across the three counties from Oct. 26-31. The operation made 96 offender personal contacts and 122 community personal contacts.
The purpose was to ensure children didn’t become victims of sexual predators during Halloween. During the operations, officers gave specific instructions to supervised sex offenders to not pass out candy, discouraged them from having Halloween decorations out or participating in any activity that could potentially lure children to their home.
Operations Scarecrow and Trick or Treat were joint collaborations with the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Division of Parole and Probation, U.S. Marshal Service, and Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County Sheriff’s Departments.
The operations were identified as great successes for increasing offender supervision and compliance.
