More than a dozen local authors are scheduled to talk about a range of topics — from history and music to memoir writing and the Holocaust — on Saturday at A to Zen, 1803 N. Carson St.
A Local Author Extravaganza, an event offering book purchases, signings and presentations by local authors, is from noon to 6 p.m., with author presentations scheduled from 1 to 3:15 p.m.
“Since we live in Northern Nevada, we wanted to give area authors an opportunity to meet the public and share their work,” said Mike Epps, owner of A to Zen, which sells books written by regional writers as well as other wares. “People can talk to the authors, have them sign books and take in presentations.”
Presentations include: CW Bayer, who will talk about local history and music, from 1 to 1:15 p.m.; Laura Newman’s short stories from 1:20 to 1:35 p.m.; memoir writing with Carol Purroy from 1:40 to 1:55 p.m.; April Kempler, who will talk about her story about a Holocaust survivor, from 2 to 2:15 p.m.; Kathleen Berry’s presentation about paranormal activity from 2:20 to 2:35 p.m.; horror and thriller writer D.L. Whitehead from 2:40 to 2:55 p.m.; and mystery and suspense author Rick Cornell from 3 to 3:15 p.m. An author question and answer sessions follows at 3:30 p.m.
Other authors scheduled to be on hand are Mark Douglas, author of Korean War novels; Peggy Rew, whose focus is on pet care and safety; children’s author Virginia Castleman; novelist Theresa Thornton; and Bill W. Morgan.
Epps will also have on hand a display of books by his parents, James and Starr McKimmey.
