Here is a game-by-game recap of the Churchill County Greenwave’s football season on their road to the Division 1-A State Championships.


Aug. 28

Tokay 34, Churchill County 23

The Greenwave lost their first game, a non-conference game with Tokay who thwarted them by a touchdown and special points.


Sept. 4

Churchill County 28, Truckee 14

The Wave doubles the Wolverines’ score with one touchdown by Connor Richardson and two by Brock Uptain, winning their first game in D1-A.


Sept. 11

Churchill County 55, Wooster 7

Cade Vercellotti runs the first kickoff of the game for a touchdown but not his last of the game. The Wave dominated in receiving yards, 215 to Wooster’s 119, with three touchdowns to Vercellotti and one to Richardson.


Sept. 18

Churchill County 28, South Tahoe 6

The Vikings exceeded the Wave in receiving yards, 142 to 112, but the Wave blew past with 205 rushing yards to South Tahoe’s 92. Richardson scored a touchdown and an interception, with two more touchdowns to Vercellotti for the game.


Sept. 25

Churchill County 52, Dayton 0

The Wave’s first shutout of the season and the most passing touchdowns by Richardson in a single game at five total.


Oct. 2

Churchill County 23, Elko 3

The Wave threw two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown by Vercellotti, while the Indians managed only a field goal by Nick Smiley.


Oct. 9

Churchill County 48, Sparks 0

The Railroaders were the second team to be shutout by the Wave, dwarfed in rushing, passing, and receiving yards by the Wave. Three touchdowns by Vercellotti, two touchdowns by Connor Nelson and a touchdown by Cameron Beyer.


Oct. 16

Churchill County 38, Spring Creek 14

The Wave faced the also undefeated Spartans in league and remained at the top. The Wave was the first on the board until the second quarter, with another five-touchdown passing game by Richardson.


Oct. 23

Rivalry Game

Churchill County 33, Fernley 6

Fernley, just behind the Wave, had a chance to knock Fallon from first but only managed to score a touchdown in the last few minutes of play.


Oct. 29

Churchill County 48, Lowry 0

The Wave finished the season before the playoffs on a high note in their third and final shutout.

Churchill County 49, Fernley 6

Fernley had a second chance in the Wave’s first playoff game, but repeated their score from the previous game.

Churchill County 40, Chaparral 27

The Cowboys were the first on the board, but the Wave took their lead and kept it by the end of the first quarter and finished to move onto the state championship.
