SILVER DOLLARS AND WOODEN NICKELS: Providing The Bridge in Carson City

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: The Bridge, a community church in the old Comstock Bank building on North Stewart Street, has opened its arms to feed the homeless and underprivileged five nights a week. And it’s not just a soup kitchen as the church from its 16-foot long by eight-foot wide trailer provides high quality meals and plenty to eat for more than 100 people on a nightly basis.

SILVER DOLLAR: Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise are well-known celebrities who took the time to provide their support for fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell, his family and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Carson City’s Don Alexander also deserves credit for reaching out to Mantegna and Sinise.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson High boys soccer team for winning the state title. The Appeal will recognized all local high school sports teams and individuals who succeeded on the regional and state level during the fall sports season in a future Silver Dollars column.
