Gov. Brian Sandoval and legislative leaders have assembled a committee focused on tracking down waste and inefficiency in Nevada’s public school system.
Sandoval announced Tuesday that 12 members were appointed to the Spending and Government Efficiency Commission, also known as the SAGE Commission.
A bill Nevada lawmakers passed this spring called for the commission, which will identify places where the state can save money or improve operations in the K-12 school system. The group will meet in Las Vegas on Dec. 1 and will make recommendations to the governor.
The committee chairman is Dale Erquiaga, who formerly served as the state superintendent and is now Sandoval’s chief strategy officer. Other members include Republican Assemblyman Pat Hickey, retired school district employees, businesspeople and representatives from nonprofits.
