Today I talked with Cory, The Greenhouse Project manager about aging apple trees at his house that an arborist suggested he cut down and replace with dwarf varieties. Although the apples have always been fruitful, the arborist thinks these trees are almost at the end of their productive years. Cutting down these old, yet healthy, trees may be acceptable from the standpoint of apple production, but since they also serve as shade trees, they would be a great loss in the overall landscape.

WEDNESDAY At 1:09 a.m., Austin Sannes, 20, of Carson City was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding causing property damage, felony possession of a controlled substance, DUI-first offense, reckless driving and minor consuming after deputies attempted to contact a man in a vehicle near 1800 Spooner Drive. Sannes led deputies on a pursuit down Northridge Drive and Eastridge Lane before hitting a tree and coming to a stop. Bail was set at $24,150.

Becoming an officer

From the time a deputy is first hired on with Carson City Sheriff’s Office or Nevada Highway Patrol, it could be almost a year and a half before they get to be on the streets as a patrol officer. Man pleads to statutory sexual seduction

Armando Navarro pleaded guilty on Tuesday to statutory sexual seduction of a 15-year-old boy. Navarro, 25, was arrested after deputies found the two in a car while responding to a report of shots fired near Cottonwood Drive and Cedar Street. The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. May 29.

Military force is sometimes necessary to protect freedom

Preliminary hearing begins in Harbor Freight case

The preliminary hearings began Thursday morning for the two men suspected of robbing the Carson City Harbor Freight Tools store at gunpoint in September. Chase Henderson, 25, and Kristopher Robinson, 37, were arrested the first week of October for allegedly entering the Carson Street Harbor Freight Tools store Sept. 19 with guns and demanding money from the store clerk and manager. The two took one manager’s car, which was later recovered by deputies.

New Millennium expanding operations in Churchill County

New Millennium Building Solutions is expanding its Fallon operations, according to a press release from Northern Nevada Development Authority. New Millennium recently began a 2-phase expansion at its current facility and will be hiring up to 17 additional employees during the next six months. TUESDAY At noon, Katrina Kaufman, 48, and Dale Welch, 47, both of Carson City were arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies responded to reports of a couple possibly selling drugs at the Carson Street Roundhouse Inn. Bail for each was set at $13,500.

One arrested after car chase starting in Fernley

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested one person following an hour long pursuit in Fernley Sunday night. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop at 4:40 p.m. near the 300 block of Sanida Drive when the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Joseph Williams of Sparks, fled the scene. Deputies had suspected Williams of driving under the influence.

Sheriff seeks information about suspect

The Carson City Sheriff’s Department is asking the public for help in identifying a suspect involved in a burglary in September. A vehicle was burglarized at Fuji Park on Clear Creek Road Sept. 5. The Nevada Supreme Court Thursday issued an opinion opening the door for a guest raped by a Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino employee to sue the resort. The opinion reverses a district court order granting the resort operators summary judgment in the case saying given all the circumstances, the rape by Alonzo Gonzalez was “reasonably foreseeable” which, under Nevada statute, makes his employer “vicariously liable” for his actions.

15-year-old escapee arrested.

A 15-year-old who ran away from China Spring Youth Camp and reportedly threatened to go to a school to commit a school shooting has been arrested. At 8:30 p.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies located John Luna and took him into custody. Luna was located in a local grocery store and arrested without incident or injuries. Numerous tips led to his capture.

Since October 1913, the dairy business has increased about four fold. Practically all the output of dairy products in this valley is from animals which have been imported. The new generation of heifers has not had time to freshen yet except in a few cases. A considerable number of high class dairy bulls have been imported. It will be interesting to note the growth of the dairy industry from the records of the Churchill Creamery. It will be noted that the highest prices for butter-fat have always been during the fall and winter months.

Three arrested in connection to Fernley burglaries

Lyon County Sheriff’s Department arrested three people Sunday afternoon in connection with multiple residential burglaries in Fernley. Zackery Iverson, 24, Victory Herman, 22, and Connie Hellstrom, 49, all of Fernley, were arrested after deputies responded to reports of a disturbance near the 500 block of Concord Circle at 12:50 p.m., Sunday. While there, the deputies noticed some property that was present that matched property that was reported stolen from burglaries on Oct. 8. The deputies obtained a search warrant and located and recovered additional stolen items and controlled substances.

Gideon Verl Hendrix passed away peacefully in the home of his daughter Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in Fallon, Nevada he was 93. Local law enforcement took down a suspected drug house early Thursday night that was allegedly running heroin sales across the street from Empire Elementary School. Members of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Tri-Net conducted a search warrant for a residence at the 3300 block of Gordonia Drive at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The officers had gotten a tip earlier in the day after conducting a traffic stop near Dotty’s Casino on Highway 50.

Nevada Supreme Court study could greatly reduce jail release based on bail

A Supreme Court study committee is working on a plan that could make sweeping changes to how defendants are released from jail before trial. Chief Justice Jim Hardesty said there’s a growing legal and societal recognition the existing system based almost exclusively on a defendant’s ability to post bail isn’t effective and has been questioned as potentially unconstitutional.

The night of the earthquake about a dozen men and one woman employed at the salt marsh near salt wells had a strange experience following the heavy shock. There was a strong odor of sulfuric gas, evidently emanating from the hot springs nearby. It was so strong in the house that people were forced to seek fresh air in the open.

Man involved in burglary ring sentenced

Dental records ID missing Fallon man

Dental records have confirmed the identity of a Fallon man whose body was found last week. Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter said the man is 50-year-old Timothy Gerald Watson, who had been reported missing for almost a month.
